Plan Overview

Who It's For

Creators with expertise to share who want an owned email audience — not rented followers on platforms that change algorithms quarterly.

The Goal

Launch a newsletter, grow to 100+ subscribers, and activate your first monetization lever — all in 28 days of focused, daily action.

How to Use

Follow one task per day. Each cell shows exactly what to do and how long it takes. Don't skip ahead — compound growth needs sequential execution.

Expected Outcome

A published newsletter with 100–300 subscribers, a lead magnet converting at 30%+, and your first sponsorship inquiry or digital product sale.

The 28-Day Schedule

Week 1 — Foundation & Setup
DayTagActionDetails
MonPrep
Define your newsletter's unique value proposition
Write 1 sentence: who it's for + what they get each issue. Study 3 top newsletters in your niche for positioning ideas.
TueActive
Research 10 competing newsletters
Sign up for 10 newsletters. Document: subject lines, frequency, monetization model, subscriber count (use Social Blade). Build a swipe file.
WedPrep
Choose platform & set up account
Compare Beehiiv vs ConvertKit vs Substack. Pick one. Set up: custom domain, sender name, reply-to email, publication name.
ThuHigh
Create your lead magnet
Build a PDF, checklist, or template that solves one specific problem. 1–3 pages max. Use Canva or Notion. This is your #1 subscriber acquisition tool.
FriActive
Build landing page & signup form
Create a dedicated landing page with: headline, 3 bullet benefits, social proof (even if small), email signup form. Test on mobile.
SatRest
Rest & consume
Read 2 newsletters in your niche end-to-end. Note what hooks you, what you skip, and why. Rest is part of the system.
SunRest
Rest & plan Week 2
Review Week 1 checklist. Confirm landing page is live. Prepare content outline for your first 3 newsletter issues.
Week 2 — Content Production
DayTagActionDetails
MonHigh
Write & send Issue #1
Structure: Hook → Story/Data → Tactical Insight → CTA. 400–600 words. Send to yourself first, proofread, then publish to your list (even if it's 5 people).
TueActive
Create 3 social posts promoting lead magnet
1 LinkedIn post, 1 Twitter/X thread, 1 short-form video. Each drives to your landing page. Use the hook: "I built a free [lead magnet] for [audience]."
WedPrep
Set up welcome email sequence (3 emails)
Email 1: Deliver lead magnet + introduce yourself. Email 2: Your best content piece. Email 3: Ask what they want to learn. Space 2 days apart.
ThuHigh
Write & send Issue #2
Reply to any responses from Issue #1. Use reader questions as content. Include one data point from your niche research. Add a PS with your lead magnet link.
FriActive
Guest post or collaboration outreach
Email 5 newsletter creators with 1K–10K subscribers. Offer: cross-promotion, guest issue, or content swap. Template: "I write about [X]. Want to swap features?"
SatRest
Rest & review analytics
Check: open rate (aim 40%+), click rate, new subscribers. Don't obsess — these are baseline numbers. Note what subject lines worked.
SunRest
Rest & batch outline
Outline Issues #3 and #4. Batch your thinking — it's easier to outline 2 issues in one sitting than to start from scratch each time.
Week 3 — Growth & Promotion
DayTagActionDetails
MonHigh
Write & send Issue #3
Feature a reader question or story. Include a "share this" CTA — ask readers to forward to one person who'd find it useful. Forwarded emails convert at 2–3x social.
TueActive
Submit to newsletter directories
Submit to: Substack Reads, Newsletter Stack, Letterlist, The Sample, InboxReads. Each directory sends targeted subscribers. Takes 30 min, pays off for months.
WedActive
Launch referral program
Set up SparkLoop or built-in Beehiiv referrals. Reward tiers: 3 referrals = exclusive PDF, 10 = private Q&A, 25 = 1-on-1 call. Makes readers your growth team.
ThuHigh
Write & send Issue #4
Deep-dive format: pick one topic, go deeper than anyone else. This is your "authority issue" — the one you'll reference when pitching sponsors later.
FriActive
Cross-promote with 2 other newsletters
Execute the swaps you set up in Week 2. Feature each other in a dedicated section: "I read [Name]'s newsletter about [topic] — subscribe here." Track new signups.
SatRest
Rest & reader research
Survey your subscribers (1-question email or Typeform): "What's your #1 challenge with [niche]?" Their answers become next month's content calendar.
SunRest
Rest & reflect
Review growth: total subscribers, open rate trend, best-performing issue. You now have 4 weeks of data. That's more than most creators ever analyze.
Week 4 — Monetization & Scale
DayTagActionDetails
MonHigh
Write & send Issue #5
Include your first "soft sponsor" — an affiliate tool you genuinely use. Disclose it. Track clicks. This teaches you what your audience will pay attention to.
TueActive
Set up paid tier or digital product
Options: premium newsletter tier ($5–15/mo), a paid template pack, or a mini-course. Use Stripe + your platform's native paywall. Price low for initial traction.
WedActive
Create 1-page sponsorship deck
Include: subscriber count, open rate, audience demographics, ad placement options, pricing (CPM model: $25–50 per 1K opens). Send to 3 relevant brands.
ThuHigh
Write & send Issue #6
Announce your paid offering to free subscribers. Offer founding member pricing (30% off forever). Create urgency without fake scarcity — this is real limited pricing.
FriPrep
Convert welcome sequence to evergreen funnel
Optimize your 3-email welcome sequence based on 4 weeks of data. Add your best-performing content. This is now your automated subscriber conversion engine.
SatRest
Celebrate & rest
You launched a newsletter, published 6 issues, built a lead magnet, set up monetization, and have real subscriber data. That's more than 95% of aspiring creators ever do.
SunPrep
Plan Month 2 strategy
Set Month 2 goals: subscriber target (2x current), revenue target ($100+), content themes. You now have a system. Next month is about scaling it.

Practical Notes

  1. Substitutions: If you already have a newsletter, skip Week 1 and start at Week 2. If you have 50+ subscribers, start at Week 3. The plan is modular — jump to wherever your current state matches.
  2. Rest days are mandatory: Saturday and Sunday are recovery by design. Newsletter burnout kills more launches than bad strategy. Use rest days to read other newsletters — consumption fuels creation. A well-rested Monday writer outperforms a grinding weekend writer every time.
  3. Missed a day? Do NOT double up tomorrow. Skip it and continue with the next scheduled task. The plan builds sequentially, but one missed day won't break the system. If you miss 3+ days, restart that week from Monday. Consistency beats intensity — a 3-day streak is better than one 12-hour marathon.
